Bailiff Bridge is a small village in West Yorkshire a mile and a half from Brighouse and 5 miles from Huddersfield. On Saturday 23rd May 1839 a steeplechase meeting was held close to the village on a 3 ¼ mile left handed course. The meeting was designed to celebrate the achievements of the Officers of the Third Dragoons when the feature race, the Bailiff Steeplechase, was won with some ease by Sir Mark owned by Mr E Dyson. Although the meeting was a success there are no records of further meetings taking place in the village. |
